Viola "Vi" Ocken, 91, of Omaha, Neb., and formerly of Templeton, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Immanuel Fontanelle Home in Omaha.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at St. James Catholic Church in Omaha.

Memorials can be made to the New Cassel Foundation in Omaha.

She was born March 21, 1922, in Halbur, Iowa, a daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Muhlbauer) Herbers. She attended St. Augustine School in Halbur.

Vi and Tony Ocken were married Feb. 4, 1948, at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. They lived in Templeton until moving to Mesa, Ariz., in 1979. In 2009 she moved to Omaha and lived at New Cassel Retirement Center until 2013.

Vi loved family, reading, sewing, gardening, crossword puzzles and playing cards.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Ken and Susan Ocken of Omaha, Neb.,, Gary and Donna Ocken of Chandler, Ariz., Joni and George Neil of Fort Collins, Colo., and Rich Ocken of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Dorothy (Eugene) Pudenz of Carroll, Iowa, and Darlene Niehaus of Omaha, Neb.; a brother Elmer Herbers of Manning, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Eileen Herbers, Ayrshire , Iowa, Dolores Herbers, Halbur, Iowa, Dolores Herbers, Manning, Iowa, and Rosemary Krieg of Nevada, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony, on Sept. 27, 2003; her parents; brothers Eugene Herbers of Ayrshire, Iowa, and Melvin Herbers of Halbur, Iowa.
