Violet Weigel, 87, of Carroll died Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Carroll Health Center.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 1, at First United Methodist Church in Carroll with the Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating.

Organist for the service was Nancy Davis. Casket bearers were Jim Drake, Joe Drake, John Drake, Alan Long, Ben Halbur and John Halbur.

Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon

Born Sept. 7, 1925, at Audubon, she was a daughter of Roderick and Sadie (Long) Drake.

She grew up in Guthrie County and attended country school and Coon Rapids High School. She married Charles Weigel on Feb. 14, 1950, in Carroll.

In her younger years she cared for her younger siblings and later worked at Carroll Health Center. Vi loved traveling and visiting with her neighbors. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

She also enjoyed visiting her sister Etta on her farm near Menlo. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carroll.

Vi is survived by several nieces and nephews, her family at the Carroll Health Center and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers: Joseph, George, Sam and Roland Drake; and a sister Etta Dillinger.
