Virgil Lester Boell Jr., 77, of Carroll, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll, with Iowa Hospice Chaplain the Rev. Mark Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Carroll City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, at the funeral home.

Born March 27, 1936, in Carroll, he was a son of Virgil and Ida (Trafford) Boell. He grew up in Carroll and attended Carroll High School. Following high school he worked for several auto shops doing body work. He married Lorraine Snyder on April 15, 1955, at St. John Catholic Church in Arcadia.

The couple raised their family in Carroll, and Virgil worked at Crouse Cartage for 31 years managing the body shop.

Virgil was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. Virgil enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are three sons: Mark Boell and his wife Deb of Carroll, Dan Boell of Carroll and Scott Boell of Glidden; a sister Janice Mobley and her husband Jack of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother Eugene Boell and his wife Diane of Lidderdale; three brothers-in-law: Al Snyder and his wife Charlene of Omaha, Neb., and Jack Snyder and his wife Bernice of Mason City, Iowa, and Robert Snyder of Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lorraine, in 2012.
