Wayne Wesley Sandberg, 87, died Tuesday, April 3, 2013, at Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll.

Wayne was born Oct. 13, 1926, at Minneapolis, Minn., a son of Edwin and Olga (Jepsen) Sandberg.

Wayne graduated from Roosevelt High School in January 1945, and enlisted in the Army Feb. 12, 1945, serving honorably in the Philippines until Dec. 10, 1946. Upon returning home Wayne entered Bethel College and Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., where he received his BA degree in 1951. Wayne was a social worker for Ramsey County in the CHS department for 30-plus years.

Wayne met and married (Feb. 18, 1961) Virginia Ann Westin at Minnehaha Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minn. They were members of Berean Baptist Church in Burnsville, Minn., and loved their church. To this union was born Mark Phillip on Aug. 15, 1962.

Wayne is survived by his son, Mark Phillip of Minneapolis; his brother, Dean Sandberg and his wife, Charlotte, of Cherokee Village, Ark.; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Brueckert and her husband, Jules of Morton Grove, Ill.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, in January; his parents; and a brother, Dale of Aitken, S.C.

Memorials preferred to Berean Baptist Church in Burnsville, Minn. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul, Minn., at a later date.
