Willene Bahrenfus, 93, of Lake View, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View. Burial will be at Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View.

Willene Martha Rix was born Nov. 30, 1919, to Paul and Elsa (Bielow) Rix in rural Charter Oak, Iowa. She grew up there with her family and attended the parochial school at St. Paul Lutheran in Hanover Township. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was baptized and confirmed there.

Willene married Byron Bahrenfus on Aug. 25, 1940, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township, Crawford County. Willene was a devoted homemaker and mother to their three daughters, Sharon, Karlene and Karla. She enjoyed needlework, embroidery and sewing, and loved tending to her flower beds and cats. She adored big-band music, enjoyed musicals and especially loved dancing with Byron. Willene was devoted to her faith, and the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the people there were a significant part of her life.

Willene is survived by her daughters: Karlene (Michael) Nuss of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Karla Kearney of Adel, Iowa; granddaughters: Lisa Kearney of Adel, Iowa, and Megan Kearney of Clarinda, Iowa; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Byron; daughter Sharon; her parents Paul and Elsa; son-in-law Thomas Kearney; sister Eunice (Donald) McAhren; brother-in-law Burton (Arlene) Bahrenfus, sisters-in-law Helen (Henry) Bieret and Mary Louise Bahrenfus; nephew Bruce McAhren; and niece Barbara Ponkow.
