An 18-year-old Churdan man who claims to be affiliated with an Omaha gang is accused of spray painting the gang’s name — NIKE — on a Pizza Ranch vehicle the night after his manager there called him “retarded,” according to court records.

Tristen Jack Palen Wood was arrested last week for the graffiti that happened overnight May 7. He faces a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge that is punishable by up to 30 days in jail.

“I wasn’t the one who did it,” Palen Wood told the Daily Times Herald in a telephone interview last week. “I quit. I wasn’t mad at any of them. Now I’m banned from Pizza Ranch.”

The NIKE gang is a group of five gangs who rival the Crips, according to the Omaha World-Herald. The name is an acronym that stands for “Nigga I’ll Kill Everybody.”

Palen Wood said he is a member, and that he and other gang members spray paint NIKE and crowns — mostly on train cars and the blocks or rocks that support bridges.

He said he quit his job because he didn’t get along with his managers, including the one who questioned his intelligence.

It’s unclear if there are any other NIKE members in the area who might have committed the crime.

I don’t know who did it,” Palen Wood said.
