Horsley running for Carroll School Board seat
August 2, 2013
A veteran agricultural sales representative who has had four sons in the Carroll Community School District has filed for a school board seat in that system.
Duane Horsley, 55, a resident of an acreage southwest of Carroll, 16285 210th St., joins Carroll resident Jennifer Munson as the only two candidates on the ballot for the two Carroll School Board seats up for election Sept. 10. Board members Jerry Fleshner and Dennis Molitor are not seeking re-election.
The deadline for filing as balloted candidates passed at 5 p.m. Thursday with no other entrants, said Gary Bengtson, director of business affairs and district secretary.
A native of Wessington Springs, S.D., and graduate of South Dakota State University in Brookings, Horsley has lived in the Carroll area for 30 years, during which time he has been a sales representative for Bayer CropScience, a Raleigh, N.C.-based company.
His wife, Kristina (Daeges), is a 1977 Kuemper Catholic High School graduate.
Duane Horsley said he's considered running for the school board for a number of years.
"I thought it was time to give some service back to the community," Horsley said.
The couple's sons Levi, Seth and Andrew are graduates of Carroll High School. Another son, Caleb, will be a CHS junior in a few weeks. A daughter, Roxanne, is a graduate of Ankeny High School.
The Horsleys attend the First Assembly of God Church in Carroll.
Through the years, Horsley said, the family has worked with a number of educators in the Carroll system.
"I think Carroll as a community has good schools," Horsley said.
