The Carroll Community School District Board Monday night approved the hiring of Manning Police Chief Larry Lesle as the juvenile court liaison for the school system.

The Manning City Council tonight will meet to discuss the replacement process for Lesle.

Manning, a city of 1,500, employs two full-time officers in addition to the chief. Lesle's salary this fiscal year is $55,500. He will earn $38,500 a year with the school district and work a 240-day contract.

The contract approved Monday hires Lesle retroactively on Aug. 12. He plans to work on a part-time basis, if needed, as police chief of Manning, said Dawn Rohe, city administrator. Lesle also has taught at Des Moines Area Community College.

A graduate of Minnesota State University, Lesle has been the police chief in Manning for the last 11 years. Prior to that, he worked for the Carroll Police Department for seven years.

Lesle succeeds Thetia Hall-Polking in the juvenile liaison position for the school district. Polking is now the juvenile court officer for Carroll County District Court.

The hiring of Lesle is contingent on state background checks.
