A new look is in the books for Carroll Library
Improvements to require shutdown Jan. 16-Feb. 4
Carroll Public Library patrons can help with a library makeover and receive a new book bag as well.
The library is conducting a promotion: come in, grab a book bag provided by Friends of the Carroll Library, and check out 10 or more books to keep while the library is being recarpeted.
The library will close Wednesday, Jan. 16, and reopen Monday, Feb. 4, for the carpet work and other improvements.
The entire library will be recarpeted, and new lights will be installed on the children's side. All of the books must be removed from the children's area. The shelves in the adult side will be slid into the middle of the library so the carpet can be laid in sections.
The staff will inventory the entire library and rearrange the collection to better serve the needs of patrons, says library director Kelly Fischbach.
The library will replace the original (1975) orange carpet. The new carpet has a beige background with green and blue threads. Approximately 8,000 square feet of carpet will be installed, and Ideal Flooring of Des Moines was low bidder on the project at $24,500. The new carpeting will be made up of carpet squares to allow the library to replace sections that get stained or worn by traffic.
The library is tackling a big move, as the children's section has approximately 24,000 items, and the adult side 65,000, including movies, paperbacks and audiobooks.
