Herald Publishing Co., the Carroll-based parent company of The Daily Times Herald, on Thursday purchased three newspapers in Guthrie County as well as the Fontanelle Observer in Adair County.

The Wilson family-owned Carroll newspaper purchased the Guthrie Center Times, Guthrie County Vedette, both weekly papers, and the seasonal monthly Lake Panorama Times from Scott Gonzales, whose family has been in the newspaper business in the region for 60 years.

Daily Timed Herald Publisher Ann Wilson and Gonzales signed the agreement Thursday afternoon in Guthrie Center.

On Thursday, the Daily Times Herald also took ownership of the Fontanelle Observer, a weekly newspaper located 5 miles east of Greenfield. The Daily Times Herald on Thursday announced the purchase of the Greenfield-based Adair County Free Press.

In late 2012, the Daily Times Herald purchased the Jefferson Bee & Herald.

All newspapers will continue to operate with separate identities. They will be printed in Carroll.

Herald Publishing Co.'s circulation area now stretches across a wide swath of western and central Iowa.

"We have long been advocates of regional economic development," Wilson said. "We plan to aggressively promote all the communities we serve."
