Danny and Jessi Miller were married in a white gazebo at Secrets Capri resort near Riviera Maya in Mexico.

Surrounded by 22 guests, Danny and Jessi Miller, of Waukee, tied the knot in June on a sandy beach next to the rolling waves of the ocean.

On a lazy Sunday afternoon in September, Danny, a 2002 Harlan High School graduate, told Jessi, a 2002 Kuemper Catholic High School graduate, to go sit on the couch because he had a surprise for her. He got down on one knee and asked Jessi to be his wife. Jessi didn’t hesitate at all and said, “Yes!”

Danny, son of Gloria Miller of Harlan, and Jim Miller of the Twin Lakes area, works for the State of Iowa, and Jessi, daughter of Keith and Deb Fahn of Carroll, is a cosmetologist at Azik Salon Suites in Ankeny.

Danny and Jessi liked the idea of a small wedding with only their very close friends and family in attendance. The idea of a destination wedding excited them. They agreed to get married in Mexico as they had visited Mexico before and loved it.

Wedding planning began starting with a travel agent. Danny and Jessi found a beautiful, small resort that was reasonably priced. They settled on Secrets Capri Riviera Maya in Mexico.

The couple’s closest friends and family flew to Mexico to be at their seaside wedding. Twenty-two guests made the trip. Jessi’s parents, Keith and Deb Fahn, Jessi’s twin sister, Jen, her brother, Ben, Danny’s brother and sister-in-law, and one of Jessi’s cousins attended the wedding, along with several friends.

The guest list was exactly what Danny and Jessi hoped it would be. The couple really wanted a destination wedding because they wanted the combination of a simple ceremony and a big celebration with friends and family.

Danny and Jessi also wanted to know their friends and family cared so much to travel so far. Plus, Jessi admits, “Every destination wedding we had seen looked so amazing and romantic, and it really was!”

The wedding party consisted of four bridesmaids and four groomsmen. The bridesmaids wore bright pink strapless dresses, and the groomsmen sported a casual look consisting of white button-down shirt and khaki pants. The ceremony took place in a gazebo wrapped in white fabric overlooking the ocean.

Jessi said, “The best part about the wedding was having the whole week to celebrate with everyone and not just one day. The whole ceremony was very special as well. We wrote our own wedding vows, and that made it very special.”

Danny and Jessi extended their tropical stay for as long as possible. They were in Mexico for a total of fifteen days. They were able to spend a whole week celebrating with their guests. Then the couple spent an additional week at a different resort, Adventura Spa Palace, for their honeymoon.

The newlyweds spent the week relaxing and going on several adventurous excursions. They took a ferry to Isla Mujeres in Cancun and took a tour of the island in a golf cart. They also spent time in Xel-Ha to sightsee and swim with the dolphins.

About a month after Danny and Jessi’s wedding in Mexico, the couple celebrated with their friends and family for a second time, only this time in Carroll. On July 21 a reception was held in their honor at The Carrollton Centre. The newlyweds and their wedding party once again donned their wedding attire for the reception.

Jessi would highly recommend a destination wedding to engaged couples.

“I would do it over the same exact way,” she said.

Jessi especially recommends booking the flight and hotel through a travel agent as it makes it much easier on everyone.
