A 25-year-old Scranton man died Friday when his pickup truck crossed the centerline of U.S. Highway 30 just east of Grand Junction and collided head-on with a semitrailer truck about 7:10 a.m.

Jacob Mariah Taggart died in the crash, the Greene County Sheriff's office said in a press release.

Vitor Marques, 29, of Newark, N.J., the driver of the semitrailer truck, was taken by ambulance to Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson with unspecified injuries and left the hospital that day.

The crash closed the highway to traffic for at least four hours.

It's unclear what might have caused Taggart's truck to cross into the oncoming lane of traffic. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash.

Taggart's funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Scranton. An 8:30 a.m. visitation precedes the funeral.
