A Guthrie Center teen allegedly fell asleep while driving a car on Iowa Highway 141 early Saturday morning near Bayard and collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck.
Rylie Schlepp, 18, was eastbound on the highway at 3:44 a.m. about two miles west of Bayard when she dozed, crossed the highway's centerline and struck the pickup truck driven by Keith Miner, 40, of Creston, according to Iowa State Patrol trooper Alex Dinkla.
Schlepp was not seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to Guthrie County Hospital.
Miner's truck went into a ditch. He and his passenger, Anita Miner, 32, of Creston, were seriously injured and taken by helicopter to Des Moines hospitals, where they are still being treated, Dinkla said today.
Schlepp wore a seatbelt at the time of the crash, whereas the Miners did not.
Schlepp had not been drinking alcohol, Dinkla said. She has not been cited for a traffic violation, online court records show.
