Carroll PD hires new officer
July 23, 2013
A long-term U.S. Army Reservist started Monday as a member of the Carroll Police Department.
Kenny Bensley, 29, a native of Dallas Center, takes the spot vacated by Officer James Anderson, who left for a position in Gardner, Kan.
Bensley, a staff sergeant in the Army Reserves, recently completed a deployment in Cuba, at Guantanamo Bay, a U.S. military detention and interrogation facility. Bensley served there from March to December 2012.
He is a graduate of Kaplan University in Des Moines.
Now living in West Des Moines, Bensley plans to move to Carroll with his wife, Erin, a day care provider, and their three children: Emma 6; and 3-year-old twins Nathan and Aubrey.
"Carroll is the type of place my wife and I believe we can raise our family," Bensley said.
The position in Carroll will allow Bensley to pursue his career position, he says.
"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a police officer," Bensley said.
Bensley spoke with the Daily Times Herald Monday after being introduced to the Carroll City Council.
