The Audubon girls' golf team took a win against Tri-Center while the boys' golf team came up a little short. In girls track, the Wheelers were led by Melissa Deist, while Nolan Smith continued his road to recovery in Guthrie Center. It was all part of a busy Monday afternoon for Audubon.


Junior Jasmine Turner continues to lead the Audubon girls golf team as the 2018 progresses. The lady Wheelers hosted Tri-Center on Monday in regular season play and Turner was once again medalist leading Audubon with a score of 43.

Audubon collected the team win with a score of 212 while T-C collected a score of 240.

Helping the Wheelers out in the win were Ashlie Heuss with a 55, Sydney Beymer with a 56 and Gianna Knueven rounded things out shooting a 58.

Audubon is back in action on Tuesday at the rescheduled Western Iowa Conference golf meet in Atlantic.


The Wheeler girls track team finished up their regular season at the Tri-Center track meet on Monday at Neola. The Wheelers finished up in 13th place with 14 team points.

Leading the Wheelers was Melissa Deist who collected first place in the shot put with a distance of 36-09.75.

Senior Whitney Petersen wrapped up her high school regular season career placing fifth in the 100 meter and sixth place in the 400 hurdles.

Audubon will be at home on Thursday, when they host District 1 State Qualifying Track meet.

100 meters: 5th-Audubon, Whitney Petersen, 13.51

400 hurdles: 6th Audubon, Petersen, 1:16.70

Long jump: 6th Audubon, Katelyn Nielsen, 13-04.50

Shot Put: 1st Audubon, Melissa Deist, 36-09.75


Senior Nolan Smith found his way back to the top after missing the first part of the 2018 track season to a knee injury.

Smith competed at his third track meet of the season at AC-GC on Monday taking first place in 110 hurdles. Smith who was the 2017 state champion in the event last year finished with a time of 15.43 for the first place finish.

Fellow senior, Joseph Zaiger also collected first place points in the discus with a toss of 161-08 as the senior duo lead Audubon.

The Wheelers took eight place in team scoring with 56 total, out of a field of 14 teams.


The Audubon boys golf team hosted Western Iowa Conference opponent, Tri-Center, on Monday as the 2018 winds down. The Wheelers came up two-strokes short and fell to the Cardinals in team play, 184-186.

"This was another heartbreaker. We are right there and need to mentally decide we are going to come out on top,” coach Sue Hawkins commented after the loss, "The cards tell me we played par on a lot of holes, we need to clean up those few holes that get messy.”

Junior Dylan Obermeier got back in his game with a 41, earning medalist in the outing. Trevor Carlson from T-C carded a 43 for runner-up.

The Wheelers top six golfers stayed in the 40’s with Aaron Gust and Eric Hermansen both shooting a 48, followed by Garrett Hansen, Jarrett Meaike and Seth Rustvold all turning in a 49 each.

Audubon is back in action on Tuesday when they participate in the WIC meet in Atlantic, which was rescheduled from last week.
