The sheriff’s offices in Boone and Greene counties released this week the three 911 calls that reported a May ambulance crash that killed two people in Boone County.
Robert Allen Genzen, 47, of Manning, was transporting a patient to a Des Moines hospital on May 13 when he struck the back of a semi-truck’s livestock trailer on U.S. Highway 30 near Beaver. A Carroll County Ambulance Service paramedic and patient died in the crash.
Genzen’s attorney, Scott Rhinehart, of Sioux City, wrote to a judge this month that he “recently became aware of an eye witness” whose testimony would prove that Genzen — who is a paramedic for the ambulance service — is innocent of two traffic convictions for which he received two 10-day suspended jail sentences and one year of probation.
Genzen seeks a new trial. It's unclear if Rhinehart's alleged eyewitness is the female caller who is heard on the Boone County recording.
