The Carroll Chamber of Commerce has officially launched its Web log, a location on the Internet to find information about businesses and economic development in the area and exchange ideas about Carroll.
Chamber executive director Jim Gossett said the blog resulted from a collaborative effort among staff and board members.
"It's going to be a great tool for Carroll and the Chamber," Gossett said.
The site went live last Monday and is located at www.carrollchamberofcommerce.blogspot.com.
The site has information on upcoming events in Carroll as well as posts on economic development stories of interest to the Carroll area.
For example, the leading post as of this morning informs readers that the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division II Baseball Tournament is beiging held May 7th - 11th at the Carroll Baseball Stadium.
The blog also offers this information in an earlier post:
"According to Washington based Congressional Quarterly Press when it comes to quality of life, Iowa has jumped to 2nd place," according to the chamber blog. "Other states ranked are Wyoming, 1st; New Hampshire, 3rd; Minnesota, 4th; and Nebraska, 5th. The comparison uses a broad range of economic, education, health-oriented, public safety and environmental statistics."
Gossett said as it stands chamber staff will post information. But the site is available for comments that are screened. That said, Gossett plans to allow criticisms from readers to go up on the blog as long as they are professional and don't make personal attacks.
"To us, it's not a true blog if all we let on are chamber of commerce comments," Gossett said.
The blog links to others sites of local value, such as Western Iowa Advantage and the Carroll Daily Times Herald. It also includes a community calendar link and profiles of members of the Chamber of Commerce.
