Malek sets Iowa record

Kuemper Catholic sophomore Akuet Malek set a new Iowa girls high school all-time record for most blocks in a single season. She set the record with 183 blocked shots this year. Earlier this year, Malek also set the Kuemper record for most blocks in a single game. This season, Malek nearly doubled the number of the next leader (among all classes) for blocked shots (Sydney Hurd of Storm Lake St. Mary’s finished the season with 99 blocked shots). Malek had more blocked shots by herself than all of the other teams that played girls basketball this year. Overall, the Knights finished the season with a 5-17 overall record. The Knights’ season came to an end last Saturday when they fell on the road to Cherokee 77-40.
