All Strings Orchestra Attached Studio opened its 19th season with the concert, “A Festival of Life With Latin American Music,” and ASA Big Band Sound Director Don Struve got into the spirit of the theme. Struve, a retired instrumental music teacher, not only directed the jazz group but also was featured on trumpet in a couple of the numbers. The concert, presented Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20, at the Carroll Recreation Center theater featured not only the Big Band Sound but also the ASA Intermediate Orchestra, Carroll Area Junior Symphony and Carroll Area Symphony, all directed by Rebecca Windschitl. Windschitl, marking 43 years in music education, has been All Strings director since the studio opened. She said in her program note, “We hop you enjoy the cultural route we took for this first concert of the season — it has been an exhilarating start with so much joy. Our world needs music that makes us smile, laugh and forget our troubles, and I believe this concert is the ticket.” All Strings will present its Christmas concert, “O Joyful Bells,” at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Rec Center.
