Bruner joined the board when Availa Bank merged with its affiliate bank, CS Bank of Fort Dodge and Pocahontas, in December 2014. He previously was on the Board of Directors at CS Bank, starting in June 1986. Bruner is a highly successful attorney in Carroll and an active supporter of a variety of community causes.

He was also directly involved with the board search committee that identified and recruited his successor, Jessica Morton.

Jeff Scharfenkamp, president and CEO of Availa Bank, says of Bruner’s time on the board, “I am very thankful to Barry for his board service and his many contributions to the community. I wish him the best.”

Morton’s appointment to the board also was approved at the April meeting. She is an attorney with Bruner, Bruner, Reinhart & Morton LLP in Carroll.

Morton is a native of Appleton, Wisconsin, and moved to Carroll after obtaining her law degree from the University of Iowa in 2014. She is on the Carroll Area Child Care Center and Preschool Board and also serves as president of the Carroll Bar Association. Her first board meeting was May 20.

Scharfenkamp and the other board members are excited to welcome Morton to Availa Bank.

“The board and I are confident that Jessica will be a strong board member, providing valuable input, oversight and perspective to our organization,” Scharfenkamp said.

Availa Bank’s roots date back to 1870 when it originally was chartered. Availa is the first three syllables of the word “available,” a word that defines the bank’s mission — to always be available to customers, communities and employees with competitive products and responsive service. Availa Bank locations are in the following communities: Ames, Ankeny, Arcadia, Carroll, Coon Rapids, Council Bluffs, Denison, Fort Dodge, Holstein, Jewell, Nevada, Roland, Sioux City, Pocahontas and Webster City.
