Carroll native Matt Wendl recently was promoted to president of First American Home Warranty.

Wendl, who has been with First American Home Warranty for about five years, is based in the company’s Carroll office at 1012 N. U.S. Hwy. 71, which employs more than 50 people.

Wendl previously served as the company’s vice president of field operations and then chief operating officer; he has worked in the home warranty industry for almost 30 years. As president, he will oversee the company’s overall sales, operations and financial success.

“I enjoy working in an organization that has an employee-focused culture, and First American’s people-first philosophy is great example of that and why our parent company has been named to the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® list for five-straight years,” Wendl told the Times Herald. “I also appreciate working in an industry with such high growth potential.”

A Carroll native, Wendl graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1992. He then majored in business management at Des Moines Area Community College.

Wendl is one of six children of Dave and Joanne Wendl of Carroll. He and his wife, Kelly, have been married for 25 years. Kelly runs AmeriServ Radon Mitigation and manages other family investments. They have four children: Madison, 22, an elementary school teacher in Denver; Nathan, 21, student at Iowa State University; Ryan, 18, a senior at Kuemper; and Kamryn, 13, a seventh grader at Kuemper.

For more than 38 years, First American Home Warranty has provided quality protection for homeowners across the nation, through more than 10 million home warranties, according to a news release. First American Home Warranty employs more than 850 people across locations in West Hills, California; Phoenix, Arizona; Santa Rosa, California; and Carroll. The company operates in 34 states.

“Matt’s entrepreneurial mindset, extensive home warranty experience and understanding of the competitive marketplace will serve our home warranty business’ employees, customers and partners well,” said Larry Davidson, chief executive officer at First American Home Warranty, in the news release. “His strong leadership will help drive First American Home Warranty’s reputation and growth as a premier home warranty provider.”
