Two pick-up days for Carroll Schools grab-and-go meals

Carroll Community School District is switching to a twice-weekly pick-up format for the grab-and-go meals it is offering area students while schools are closed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Residents can pick up free meals for students ages 18 or under — they don’t need to be Carroll Schools students — twice a week, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. On both those days, a hot meal and snack will be distributed, as well as breakfast and sack lunches for the following days, so that residents still will receive five lunches a week.

The meals can be picked up at Fairview Elementary School, 525 E. 18th St., on the west side of the building off Grant Road, near the orange awning. Residents should remain in their car, and school employees will bring out meals.

To ensure there are enough meals, residents are asked to call 712-792-8001 or 712-775-5012, email sanderson@carrolltigers.org or comment on the “Summer Meals Program Carroll, Iowa” Facebook page by 10 a.m. on Monday or Wednesday to order lunches; they should provide a family name and indicate how many children need meals. Those who already have called to order meals are included on the school’s list for future meals.

The menu for this week is as follows:

Monday, March 23: Hot lunch: hamburger on a bun, slice of cheese, green beans, assorted applesauce (plain, cinnamon, strawberry), chocolate milk, plus Gripz and juice for snack.

Tuesday, March 24 (picked up with Monday lunch): Breakfast: chocolate muffin, juice, milk. Lunch: Grape Uncrustable, string cheese, fresh vegetables, mandarin oranges, cookies, chocolate milk.

Wednesday, March 25: Hot lunch: Grilled hot dog, whole grain bun, Cheeto puffs, steamed corn, mixed berry fruit cup, chocolate milk, plus Scooby Grahams and juice for snack.

Thursday, March 26 (picked up with Wednesday lunch): Breakfast: Mini donuts, juice, milk. Lunch: Sub sandwich, assorted chips, baby carrots, apple slices, chocolate milk.

Friday, March 27 (picked up with Wednesday lunch): Breakfast: Cinni minis and frosting, juice, milk. Lunch: Grape Uncrustable, string cheese, juice, diced pear cups, assorted Elf Grahams, chocolate milk.
