As schools and businesses remain closed to curtail the spread of the new coronavirus COVID-19, zoos are offering virtual experiences that families can enjoy from home.
Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines is offering a variety of online activities through its Facebook page, including "Yoga/Mindfulness at the Zoo," "Porcupine Adventures," "Feed a Giraffe" and more. Details are available here, and activities are available on the zoo's Facebook page here.
The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha also is offering interactive videos and activities each day, including keeper clips, interactive videos with zoo educators and activities for kids in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade and sixth through 12th grade. Those are available here.
Many other zoos also are offering virtual experiences that can be viewed from anywhere, including the Cincinnati Zoo, which is offering a free Home Safari at 2 p.m. each day, highlighting a zoo animal and outlining an activity that can be completed at home. Those can be seen on the Cincinnati Zoo's Facebook and YouTube pages.
