County increases availability of COVID testing

  • 0

Area residents will be able to receive a Test Iowa COVID-19 test kit at no cost through a collaboration between Carroll County Public Health, Manning Regional Healthcare Center, McFarland Clinic, and St. Anthony Regional Hospital and Clinics. Offering this alternate method of testing is in response to the increased number of COVID-19 cases and a way to lessen the burden on clinic staff and emergency rooms for testing.

This PCR test kit provides an accurate and reliable method for detecting COVID-19 from your saliva. Individuals can pick up or drop off test kits at any health clinic in Carroll County. (A full list of locations is available below.)

Detailed instructions are included in the boxed kit. After verifying that all the test items are in the box, you must activate the kit by providing your information and test kit ID online at www.testiowa.com. You will receive your test result only if your test kit has been activated. If you have difficulty activating your kit, you may call 833-286-8378.

Prior to providing your saliva sample, do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum for 30 minutes, so plan accordingly. Do not discard the box. You will use it to return your collected sample to Manning Regional Healthcare Center, St. Anthony Clinic, or St. Anthony Regional Hospital Emergency Department entrance. You may also drop it off at any UPS drop-off location using a prepaid UPS label included with the test kit.

Dropped-off test kits will be gathered at St. Anthony Regional Hospital and couriered to the State Hygienic Laboratory for processing. Within 24-72 hours, your test results will be conveyed directly to you by email. If you receive a positive COVID-19 test result, contact your health-care provider to keep your health records up to date.

“Providing alternative COVID-19 tests allows greater opportunity to protect our families, friends and neighbors,” said Nicole Schwering, Carroll County Public Health director. “Our clinics and hospitals will be better able to keep up with their patients who are ill instead of using appointment times for COVID-19 testing.”

If you have any questions, or need help completing the test, call Carroll County Public Health at (712) 794-5408 during the work week. You may also call Test Iowa at (833) 286-8378. Multiple languages are available online with detailed instructions.
