A 68-year-old Schaller man was arrested Thursday night for felony burglary for going into a closed bar and stealing six bottles of beer, one of which he later dropped and shattered, according to court records.
Dean Allen Box is accused of going into Harley's Bar, 116 W. Second St., about 9:20 p.m. when it was closed. The door was locked but wasn't properly latched.
When Box opened the door, it triggered an alarm that notified the bar's owners, who called someone in town to investigate, court records show.
"When (the person) arrived he saw Dean exiting the bar holding several beers," according to a criminal complaint. "Dean dropped one beer which shattered on the sidewalk in front of his vehicle."
"Dean appeared to be very intoxicated," a deputy sheriff wrote.
The deputy suspected that Box drove his vehicle to the bar but did not see Box driving. The deputy found the five stolen beers on the passenger seat of Box's vehicle.
Box agreed to a test of his breath to determine his blood-alcohol concentration but "failed to give a proper sample on several attempts," court records show.
Box is charged with burglary — which is punishable by up to five years in prison — and misdemeanor public intoxication.
He was jailed.
Schaller is about 50 miles northwest of Carroll.
