For the first time in more than a year, Carroll County recently went a week without having a new confirmed coronavirus case, according to state data.

The number of new cases in the county and across the state have plummeted since vaccines became widely available. As of Wednesday, more than 9,500 of the county’s residents were fully vaccinated, which is about 47 percent of the county’s total population.

The last time Carroll County had zero new confirmed cases over the course of a week was in May 2020. The county’s single-week peak was 295 new cases in November.

There also has not been a coronavirus-related death in the county in the past two months, according to state data.
