Today we take a leap forward as a news organization with the launching of a new website.

We join 2,000 other news organizations, large and small, in working with leading Internet provider TownNews to provide our readers and advertisers with a more dynamic, readable and graphically engaging website. It will still be located at the same trusted domain — www.carrollspaper.com.

As many of you have seen, with our April switch to twice-weekly, all-local publication in print, we have been more active in getting breaking news to you quickly, using our heavily-trafficked Facebook presence and Twitter feeds with some of the largest followings in the Carroll area and our growing email newsletter to direct people to the website.

The new website, which we roll out today, ties into that.

If you are already a subscriber, there’s good news. You get access to the website. Just go to www.carrollspaper.com, create a new account by clicking “Sign Up” at the top, then go to the “Subscriptions” tab in your user dashboard and claim your access using the same email address you used to sign up. If you're a current e-Edition subscriber, use the same email address to create your account. If you're a current print subscriber, we’ll approve your claim on our end and you’ll be set to have full access to the site. Expedite the process further by adding your full name and phone number to the user account contact information on your dashboard.

The majority of our subscribers still enjoy reading their news in print, and for you, nothing changes. You’ll still get the Times Herald newspaper twice a week.

Visitors to the website will have access to a variety of features and will get a limited number of free reads each month before they are asked to pay for a subscription to the site, which they can do for a variety of time periods, including a day (just $1), a week, a month, a year or two years ($168).

Our new site will expand the visibility of the Carroll area beyond our traditional readership. Our newspaper, known for reinvesting in talented journalists, has a reputation that reaches outside of the Carroll area. Carrollspaper.com now will be more accessible to readers across Iowa and the nation interested in rural topics and western Iowa and Iowa politics. That means your voices and advertising are amplified.

Please bear with us as we make adjustments to our new site. If you have suggestions on how to improve it, or if there are past stories of ours you'd like to see on the new website that aren't there, email us at newspaper@carrollspaper.com.

One more feature you will enjoy is a news-sharing arrangement with hundreds of other news organizations around the country. We will bring you some of their stories, as we share yours with a broader audience.

For local businesses, we urge you to log on to www.carrollspaper,com and, free of charge, claim your space on our local business directory, which will allow you to reach more customers. We also have paid options to add features to your business page or have it featured more prominently.

For any questions, please email us at newspaper@carrollsaper.com or call 712-792-3573.

As always, your patience and support of a locally owned news organizations with three generations of family leadership and a 90-year presence in Carroll is appreciated.
