Another Carroll County resident has died after being infected by the coronavirus, local health officials announced today.
The resident was between the ages of 70 and 79.
Statewide, there were 37 virus deaths reported in the past day.
The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the county is now 1,953, an increase of about 120 in the past week. That marks a significant decline in the county's infection rate, although it comes during a holiday week.
Recently, the county had in excess of 200 confirmed cases per week.
An uptick in deaths usually follows an uptick in confirmed cases by about one or two weeks.
The county's two-week test positivity is now barely less than 20 percent, down from a recent high near 30 percent, but it is still much higher than a target rate of 5 percent, below which infectious disease experts say the spread of a virus is under control.
That rate is calculation that compares the number of confirmed tests with the total number of tests conducted.
