Schools dismiss early under threat of blizzard

  • 0

Carroll Schools and Kuemper will dismiss classes two hours early today as a winter storm with ice, snow and wind gusts of nearly 50 mph looms.

The National Weather Service predicts a slight chance of rain before 1 p.m. in Carroll, followed by rain and snow that will alternate into Wednesday morning.

Up to four inches of snow is possible.

“Plan on slick road conditions,” the Weather Service warns. “Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact this evening's or tomorrow morning's commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches with isolated power outages."

The Glidden-Ralston Community School District also is dismissing classes at 1:30 p.m. today, and IKM-Manning Community Schools postponed a second-grade field trip to the Science Center in Des Moines that was planned for today.
