FIREMAN 50 YERAS; NOT READY TO RETIRE: Fifty years as a member of the Lake City Volunteer Fire Department is the record of Floyd Wellington, who joined the department March 4, 1921. Wellington has seen the fire-fighting equipment at Lake City grow from a Model T Ford and a hand-drawn horsecart to the present four-fire trucks and all the modern fire-fighting equipment, worth an estimated $80,000. He has gone to an average of 12 fires a year and attended regular department meetings and drills twice a month. He is prompt at answering the call — usually arriving at the fire station among the first of the 23 firemen.
