LINE UP FOR PLATES: Those with perseverance and determination to drive the "No. 1" car and truck in Carroll County arrived at 3 a.m. and earlier to wait for the Carroll County treasurer's office to begin selling 1971 Iowa license plates at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Louis Kroeger of Rt. 2, Carroll, headed the line, which really started forming by 6 a.m., and walked away with car license No. 1. Bill Kunecke of Carroll, pictured with car plate No. 3 for his son, Gary, will drive the No. 1 truck and No. 4 car. Those not interested in a low license number are reminded by the treasurer's office to buy their 1971 plates before Feb. 1, to avoid paying a penalty. All new plates must be on cars by March 15.
