Beverly Irene Onken, 87, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Gordon Buchholz officiating. Music for the service will be by Carl Wilburn. Casket bearers will be Bev’s grandchildren. Burial will be at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden.
Visitation will be held at Peace Lutheran Church beginning one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Those in attendance at Beverly’s service are asked to abide by COVID-19 guidelines, and face masks are required at the church.

Beverly Irene Onken was born on Jan. 30, 1934, on a farm near Carroll, Iowa, and was a daughter of Everett and Bessie (Norton) Finley. She grew up in Auburn where she attended school. Bev married Kenneth Onken on June 11, 1950, at First Presbyterian Church in Auburn. The couple lived on the Onken family farm for eight years before moving to Glidden, and Bev worked at West Central Co-op in Ralston for 20 years.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden where she was active with the quilters. Bev was an excellent seamstress. She sewed her whole life, from her kids’ clothes to wedding dresses, prom dresses, and her popular baby quilts and anything crafty. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bev is survived by three daughters: Barbara Etzen (Charles) of Gilbert, Arizona, Wendy Bock (Bob) of Glidden and Peggy Gibson of Fountain Hills, Arizona; eight grandchildren: Derik Gibson (fiancée Jenny Kinder), Heidi Thell (Peter), Mandi Bock (Shawn), Andrea Wirth (Michael), Josh Bock (Tricia), Drew Etzen (Karissa), Devon Ellsworth (Jesse) and Morgan Green (Rob); 21 great-grandchildren; a sister: Wanda Borgeson of Omaha; two brothers: Larry Finley (Cindy) of Auburn and Roger Finley (Marie) of Gilbert, Arizona; brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Onken of Glidden; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Everett and Bessie Finley; her father- and mother-in-law: Ed and Rosetta Onken; two sisters: Betty Rubendall and Jackie Mortensen; daughter Julie in infancy; son Kyle Onken in 2011; and her husband: Kenneth in 2003.
