David was born on Dec. 7, 1951 in Carroll, Iowa, and he was a son of Ward Dean and Betty Jean (Miner) Fisher. He was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden on April 6, 1952. He grew up on the family farm near Glidden and graduated from Glidden-Ralston High School in 1970. He attended Creighton University and returned to Glidden to farm with his father and two brothers.
Dave met his wife Karen Barthman during a short stay at the Lake City Hospital, where she worked as a nurse’s aide. They were married on Nov. 6, 1970, at First Presbyterian Church in Glidden. The couple made their home on a family farm for 10 years and then moved into Glidden. They had three children: Stephanie Jean, Shawn David and Sarah Lynn.
David aka “Skipper” was a dedicated truck driver for Quandt Auto Salvage for nearly 35 years after leaving farming. He took great pride in his work, always keeping his truck immaculately clean. He officially retired in 2016.
Dave enjoyed the simple things in life: hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends who were always welcome to have a cold one in the garage and hear about his infamous “hole-in-one.” He was a proud member of the “Carroll County Lodge.”
