David Bernard Kerkhoff, son of Alphons and Frances (Bluml) Kerkhoff, was born March 5, 1938, on the family farm south of Templeton in Carroll County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. He attended Sacred Heart School, graduating with the Class of 1955.

On Feb. 7, 1959, Dave married Delores Wiskus at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. To this union, they were blessed with one daughter, Jacqueline. In 1959, Dave enlisted in the U.S. National Guard and served until 1967. Following his brother’s footsteps, he attended Reisch Auctioneering School in Mason City in March 1959. After graduating there, he joined his brother Meryl and nephews Marty and Keith as a successful auctioneer with Kerkhoff Auction Service.

Dave went into farming full time with his dad south of Templeton on the family farm where he enjoyed farming his whole life. He looked forward each spring to planting and each fall to harvesting his crops. Dave never retired, he liked to keep himself busy.

In their younger years, Dave and Dee enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter with neighbors and friends in the beautiful Iowa snow. They enjoyed an occasional vacation getaway with friends to places they’d not seen before. They also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, visiting and having coffee at the Corner Station. Dave was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church, the men’s choir and Knights of Columbus.

Dave’s health started to fail in October, and he died surrounded by his family on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, at his home. He was 84.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 63 years: Delores Kerkhoff of Templeton; daughter: Jacqueline and husband Russell Burdette of Carroll; brother Frank Kerkhoff and wife Carole of Red Oak; sister Joyce Masching of Carroll; sisters-in-law Dorothy Kerkhoff of Audubon, Florine Nielsen of Carroll, Cleo Wiskus of Exira, Mary Ann Brincks of Carroll, Janice Kracht of Coon Rapids and Joan Wiskus of Coon Rapids; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Alphons and Frances Kerkhoff; brothers Orville Kerkhoff and Meryl and wife Imelda Kerkhoff; sister Joan and husband Francis Tunink; and brothers-in-law James Masching, Harold Nielsen, Charles Wiskus, Gene Brincks, James Kracht and Richard Wiskus.
