Florence Marie Fricke, 103, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
A private funeral service was held on Monday, Nov. 16, at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor Ryan Roehrig officiating. Casket bearers were Florence’s grandchildren. Burial was at Carroll City Cemetery.

Florence was born on June 7, 1917, on her family’s farm north of Carroll, where she lived her entire life. She was a daughter of Henry and Ella (Warnke) Boell. Florence’s mother passed away when Florence was 5 years old and she was raised by her father and her loving family. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll, and she attended Grant Township Country School until the eighth grade.
Florence married Elmer Fricke on Sept. 25, 1938, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. The couple farmed the Boell family farm, where they raised their four children and Florence was very active in the farming operation.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Aide and church circle. Florence enjoyed volunteering at the New Hope Village Store, crafting, needlework, and spending time with her family. She was famous for her lemon pie.
Florence is survived by her children and their families: son Paul Fricke (Patty) of Carroll, son Ron Fricke (Renee) of Carroll, daughter Maxine Toigo (Anthony) of Indianola and daughter Diane Halbur (Don) of Ankeny, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Doug Fricke (Jeannette) of Grimes, Iowa, Sheila Briley (John) of Minburn, Iowa, Craig Fricke (Beth) of Carroll, Marie Streeter (Danny) of Lanesboro, Iowa, Heather Erickson (Derik) of Eldridge, Iowa, Angela Wietzema (Troy) of Worthington, Minnesota, and Tony Toigo of Indianola; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Ella Boell; her mother- and father-in-law: Emma and Adolph Fricke; a sister: Edna Wenck (Clarence); four brothers: Elmer Boell (Henrietta), Paul Boell (Helen), Floyd Boell (Eva) and George in infancy; her in-laws: Dorothy Johnson (Georgie) and Harry Fricke (Mildred); grandson Steven Halbur; and her husband: Elmer, in 1994.
