Irene Beckman, 97, of Carroll, died peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2020, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
A private service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. The celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Honorary casket bearers will be Irene’s grandchildren, Evan Beckman, Lauren Harding, Megan Downey, Ashley Quinn, Kara Barton, Ray Beckman, Lexi Beckman and Jack Beckman. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. A link to a livestream via YouTube will be available at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday.

Irene, a daughter of Herman and Elizabeth (Behrens) Buelt was born on April 6, 1922, in Roselle, Iowa. After completing her education in Halbur, Iowa, she attended the Iowa School of Cosmetology in Des Moines, Iowa.
On June 28, 1954, Irene married Raymond Beckman at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The couple made their home in Carroll, where Irene worked as a cosmetologist.
Irene enjoyed her job. Her clients were not only her customers, they were also her friends. Frequently, after she styled someone’s hair, they would sit down for a cup of coffee and just talk. She also loved baking, taking walks, supporting the Chicago Cubs, playing cards, shopping, traveling across the United States, and visiting her children and grandchildren. She was also an active member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas. But her greatest love was her family.
Irene is survived by her three children and their families: Mark Beckman and his wife, Gail, of Charlottesville, Virginia; their son, Evan (Shelly) Beckman, and their daughters, Morgan and Lydia, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and their daughter, Lauren (Evan) Harding, and their sons, Hayes and Wells, of Richmond, Virginia; Lori Elder and her husband, George, of Charlottesville; their daughter, Megan (Chris) Downey, and their children, Aiden and Charlotte, of Ruckersville, Virginia; their daughter, Ashley (Dan) Quinn, and their daughter, Kinley, of Warrington, Pennsylvania, and their daughter, Kara (Jeff) Barton, of Richmond; Scott Beckman and his wife, Teresa, of Grayslake, Illinois; and their children, Ray Beckman of Chicago, Illinois, Lexi Beckman of Grayslake and Jack Beckman of Grayslake; her sisters-in law, Virginia Buelt of Waltham, Minnesota, and Katie Buelt of Pittsville, Wisconsin; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents; and her siblings: John (Bertha) Buelt, Mary (Peter) Heithoff, Albert (Adelaide) Buelt, Edward Buelt, Eleanor (Herbert) Steffes, Olga (George) Mooney, Louis Buelt, Herbert (Lucille) Buelt and Leonard Buelt.
