Jerome Kirsch

1946-2019

Jerome Kirsch, 73, of Carroll, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, at his home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Dec. 9, at St. John Paul II Parish-St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The celebrant was Father Shinoj Jose. Music was by Kate Cuddy and the St. Lawrence Choir. Lectors were Bev Kirsch and Karen Brightwell. Gift bearers were Jayden Kirsch, Lizzy Niehaus, Piper Kirsch and Khloe Niehaus. Casket bearers were Carson Kirsch, Tanner Eichhorn, Logan Kriegel, Jeff Babe, Tony Niehaus, Larry Magner, Charlie Kirsch and Andy Nellesen. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sauk Rail Trail Fund and may be left at the funeral home or the church.

Born on May 11, 1946, in Roselle, Iowa, Jerome was a son of Andrew and Leona (Daniels) Kirsch. He attended Holy Angels School and later assisted his family with their farm operation. Jerome served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 and upon his honorable discharge returned to the Carroll area. He married Shirley Wiederin on Aug. 10, 1968, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. They raised their family in the Carroll community and enjoyed going to dances in their teal car. Jerome started his career with Roman Steffes and later worked many years for Drees Plumbing and Heating, and then was self-employed until his retirement.

He enjoyed keeping busy with yardwork, gardening, working on cars and woodworking. Jerome was a collector of antique toys, enjoyed walking and going to Bomgaars and Walmart. He loved sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Jerome was a member of St. John Paul II Parish-St. Lawrence Church in Carroll.

Jerome is survived by his children: Sheldon (Lynn) Kirsch of Carroll, Curt Kirsch and fiancée Kim Hackett of Carroll, Russ Kirsch and friend Cindy Pudenz of Glidden, Brad (Carol) Kirsch of Carroll, Amy (Tony) Niehaus of Kansas City, and Amber Kirsch and friend Jeff Babe of Breda; grandchildren: Dustin and Braden Brown, Logan Kriegel, Elizabeth, Khloe and Anthony Niehaus, Kaleigh Morgan, Tanner Eichhorn, and Jayden, Carson and Piper Kirsch; siblings: Andy Kirsch, Mercedes (Lloyd) Drees, Duane (Betty) Kirsch, Monica (Norm) Nellesen and Virgil (Peggy) Kirsch; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lucy Kirsch, Lou Ann Stoffers, Lynn (Mary) Wiederin, Bob (Mary) Wiederin, Mike Wiederin, LaVonne (Rick) Richardson, Kathy Olson (fiancé Dick Greteman), Karlynn Wiederin, Sharon Wiederin and Dean Ludwig; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Leona Kirsch; wife, Shirley, in 1997; brother Arthur Kirsch; sisters: Janice (Leroy) Klocke and Diane Ludwig; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Larry Wiederin, Steve Wiederin, LaVern Wiederin, Gary Wiederin, Lois Wiederin, Ronny Stoffers and Mary Ann Kirsch; and parents-in-law, Thelma (Merle) Wiederin.
