Marie Murrane

Marie Julia Murrane, 81, of Carroll, Iowa, and formerly of Bayard, Iowa, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bayard with Father Raymond Higgins as celebrant assisted by Deacon Scott Steffen and Deacon Dave Prenger. Lector will be Deacon Dave Prenger. Gift bearers will be Matracea Wagner and Macie Murrane. Casket bearers will be Joseph Murrane, Matthew Murrane, Tim Murrane, Tom Murrane, Heath Wagner and Pat Murrane. Burial will be at Willow Township Cemetery near Bayard.

Visitation will be at St. Patrick Church from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Wednesday prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Nursing Home.

Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Marie was born on Feb. 21, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska. She was a daughter of Joseph and Martha (Emery) Murrane. Marie was one of six children, and she grew up in Bayard. As a girl, she attended Mount Scholastica Catholic Girls School in Atchison, Kansas. Marie graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll in 1961 and then attended Creighton University in Omaha.

She worked as an accountant at the Jones Store in Kansas City for several years, and then as a seamstress for several businesses in including Kasperbauer Cleaners in Carroll. Marie then worked at St. Anthony Nursing Home as a CNA for 14 years.

She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and she was a devout Catholic participating in many area right to life events.

Marie is survived by her sister Margaret Murrane of Prescott Valley, Arizona; two sisters-in-law: Patricia Murrane of Des Moines and Carlene Murrane of Bayard; brother-in-law Jerry Wilson of Branson, Missouri; nine nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Martha Murrane; two sisters: Martha Jenners (Robert) and Madonna Wilson; and two brothers: Michael and Matthew Murrane.
