Ruth Elaine Boeckman, 81, passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial was Friday, Nov. 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake, with Father Joe Dillinger and Deacon Butch Stone officiating. Interment was at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.
Ruth was born in Carroll, Iowa, on May 5, 1938, a daughter of Henry and Hilaria Pick.
Ruth grew up on a farm west of Breda, Iowa, and graduated from St. Bernard Catholic School in Breda in 1956. On Aug. 23, 1958, she married Raphael “Ray” Boeckman at St. Bernard Catholic Church with Father Hausman officiating. After marriage, they lived in Wall Lake where they raised their two daughters. During her lifetime, she worked at Woolworths in Carroll, at National Oats in Wall Lake and for 27 years as a teacher’s aide at Wall Lake Community School.
Ruth enjoyed decorating for holidays, tending her flower garden that she took great pride in, and watching the purple martins. Freezing sweet corn and making salsa was always a family event enjoyed by all.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Ray Boeckman; children: Vicki (Kirk) Thiel of Omaha, Nebraska, and Susan (Don) Wheeler of Omaha; grandchildren: Matt (Becca) Thiel, Tom (Katie) Thiel, Rob Wheeler, Jeff Wheeler and Stacy (fiancé Ben Heusinkvelt) Thiel, all of Omaha; great-grandchildren: Hudson and Hadley Thiel, Ryan and Cole Thiel; sister Arlene Fisher of Carter Lake, Iowa; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Morris Boeckman of Wall Lake, Gene (Pat) Boeckman of Lake View, Iowa, Ione (Jim) Schreck of Sioux City, Iowa, Agnes (Wilber) Wiederin of Lake City, Iowa, Marie Lowe of Maple River, Iowa, Roni (Norm) Hanson of Carroll, Pat (Louie) Haverman of Carroll and Paul (Cheri) Boeckman of Boone, Iowa; many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hilaria Pick; brothers- and sisters-in-law: James Fisher, Gabe Boeckman, Jean Boeckman, Mary Sue Boeckman, Merlin Loew, Donna Mae Boeckman, Michael Boeckman and Joseph Boeckman.
