Thelma McMeekin, 88, of Lake City, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.
Funeral was held Sunday, Oct. 13, at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with burial at the Lake City Cemetery. Lampe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Thelma Gladys (Heath) McMeekin was born on June 20, 1931, at McVay Hospital in Lake City to Earl and Gladys (Hatfield) Heath. She graduated from high school in 1949, then attended business school in Omaha. On June 21, 1953, Thelma married James McMeekin at the Methodist Church in Lake City.
Through the years Thelma worked at Lake City State Bank, Heath’s Produce, Watter’s Appliance Center and Mally, Boettcher & Armbrecht Vet Clinic before retiring in 2006.
She was a member of Rapid Riders Motorcycle Club, American Legion Auxiliary and IOOF Rebekah Lodge. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and mother-in-law who took care of her family by her excellent cooking, cleaning and nursing. She also enjoyed taking care of all the stray cats that showed up on her porch for years.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Merle) Wuebker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Gladys Heath; husband, James, in 2004; and brother, Paul Heath.
