William “Bill” Weitl, 66, of Manning, Iowa, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Ohde Funeral Home (www.ohdefuneralhome.com) in Manning.
Funeral services be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, with the Rev. Jonathan Conner officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be Mya Sandage, Skyler Sandage, Jadyn Weitl, Kyah Weitl, Zoe Myers, Zadyn Myers and Zac Myers. Casket bearers will be Billy Weitl, Matt Weitl, Ryan Sandage, Linkin Weitl, Nathan Hagedorn and Jonathan Greazel. Interment will be at Manning Cemetery in Manning.
William “Bill” Kenneth Weitl, son of Raymond W. and Loraine (Stangl) Weitl, was born Jan. 25, 1956, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. His family farmed east of Templeton. He attended Sacred Heart School in Templeton until the third grade, then Manning Community School, graduating with the Class of 1975. After high school Bill attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge for a year.
From 1976-1980 Bill worked at Garst and Thomas Seed Corn Company in Coon Rapids. During this time he moved to Manning, and on March 8, 1980, he married Shona Hagedorn at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Three children were born to this union. From 1980 to 1991 he drove semi-trailer truck, and in 1991 to 2013 he worked at Pepsi in Carroll. Bill then worked at Puck Custom Enterprise south of Manning, retiring in 2018.
In his spare time, Bill enjoyed going to car shows with his 1976 Monte Carlo Car. He liked the Kansas City Chiefs football team, watching “Classic Tractors,” western shows and the Bob Ross TV Channel. He also enjoyed walking on the trails in Manning. He absolutely loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bill was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years: Shona Weitl, of Manning; two sons: Matt Weitl and friend Candice of Clarksville, Iowa, and Billy Weitl and wife Sarah of Carroll; son-in-law Ryan Sandage of Templeton; eight grandchildren: Linkin Weitl, Kyah Weitl, Mya Sandage, Skyler Sandage, Jadyn Weitl, Zoe Myers, Zac Myers and Zadyn Myers; five siblings: Diane and husband Jerry Berger of Arcadia, Mike Weitl and wife Jan of Templeton, Jim Weitl and wife Sue of Carroll, Pat Franklin of Washington state, and Kathy and husband Mike Hillard of Missouri; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Shelli and husband Bob Barsby of Manning, Troy Hagedorn and wife Monica of Audubon, and Tonya and husband Keith Benna of Ida Grove; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Mandi Weitl-Sandage in 2016; brother Joseph Weitl; and parents-in-law: Roger and Deanna Hagedorn.
