To the Editor:
On behalf of the Iowa Conservative Energy Forum, I would like to thank Congressman Randy Feenstra for his recent column on wind energy milestones in Iowa and his long support of renewable energy.
Iowa agriculture is in a unique position to lead the way on energy innovation. In addition to technology like wind and solar, there are other opportunities to increase land productivity and yields while also reducing harmful pollutants.
Recently, a group of concerned Iowans met with Congressman Feenstra’s office about the bipartisan and bicameral Growing Climate Solutions Act (S. 1251 / H.R. 2820) as part of a virtual fly-in with Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions. The legislation provides assistance for farmers, ranchers, and private forest landowners to monetize conservation practices and on-farm energy production. It is a voluntary natural solution to help farmers diversity their income by participating in carbon credit markets.
The idea is supported across the political spectrum, by more than 70 leading conservation, agricultural and environmental organizations. In fact, Iowa Senators Grassley and Ernst, along with Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks, are sponsors of the bill.
Good public policy can provide proven economic benefit to rural Iowa, while also increasing sustainable farming measures through a commonsense, voluntary approach that benefits all Iowans.
We look forward to continuing to work with Iowa’s federal delegation to advance these innovative solutions.
