To the Editor:
Regarding the article in the city government section about fixing the Graham Park bridge or tearing it down, might I just say this: Don’t tear down the beautiful bridge connecting Grant Road and DMACC to Graham Park! People have used the awesome and exquisite architectural designed flawless bridge for 67 years.
Yes, maintenance is due to these structures after years of evolutionary wear and tear. However, it links us to our past, present and future. What a nuisance it would be to have to drive out of Graham Park to get to our beloved DMACC and ballfields.
Wedding and graduation photos have been taken on that bridge, praying for future wellness and bright days ahead!
So what if it sometimes “looks like a drainage ditch”! That so-called “ditch” prevents those parts of Carroll from flooding! Thankfully, Carroll, Iowa is perched high enough that we will NEVER be washed away as a city! We are not flood zoned!
That said, excess water and thaw has to go somewhere. If you City Council people want to invest money in beautification for the ditch, that’s a bit excessive in my opinion. However, I am no horticulturist, so I’ll close with this: Keep the bridge, fix the bridge and do what you all want below it!
