To the Editor:
This is in response to the Letter to the Editor by Mary Bruner placed in the February 12 edition of this paper. This article discussed the application of COVID-19 vaccines in Iowa. I commend her for stating accurate statistics, and for her appreciation of the work done by local health providers and officials.
What I take issue with is her attack on our governor. She states that the governor’s website does not provide current information about press conferences. I wish to point out that if you go to the governor’s official website, you can then click on the tab for “Newsroom.” At the bottom of this page is a large space for “Press Release Sign-up.” You will receive frequent easy-to-read notices from her office showing upcoming press conferences, upcoming schedules for her and the Lt. Governor, as well as current proclamations. I have received these long before the pandemic started and found them to be very informative.
Concerning the speed with which the vaccine is being distributed, I too am awaiting my vaccine, and am happy that my elderly parents have gotten theirs. The governor is not responsible for the manufacture or national distribution of the vaccine. Instead of looking for somebody to blame, we should be thankful that we even have a vaccine and that many of those at highest risk have already received it.
