Carroll bests Storm Lake, falls to Boone

Carroll’s swim team started one of their busiest weeks of the season by winning against Storm Lake on Tuesday night.

At the triangular between Carroll, Boone and Storm Lake, the Tigers were able to best Storm Lake 81-12. Boone would get past Carroll 58-43.

“The girls swam a good meet,” said head coach, Deb Danner. “We had some personal best times. We have a tough week ahead of us, so we will keep pushing hard.”

Melea Axman would be one of multiple winners on the night. Axman stated the winning ways when she would win the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 2:04.55. Just behind her was Kelsey Gray who finished fourth with a time of 2:15.85.

Later Axman would finish first again in the 100-yard freestyle event. There, she needed just 56.86 seconds of swim time to reach the wall. She was joined by teammate Sophia Polking who finished fourth.

Ashley Beagle won a couple events on Tuesday. In the 200-yard individual medley event Beagle finished first with a time of 2:30.06. She had to be fast on her wall touch too. Just behind her was teammate Mackenzie Campbell who finished second with a time of 2:30.51.

Beagle would again be fastest in the 500-yard freestyle event when she won with a time of 5:57.03. Emily Hansen finished fourth with a time of 6:33.95.

Jenna Currier added to the wins when she won the 100-yard fly event. Her time was clocked at 1:00.73. Campbell finished third.

Currier also won the 50-yard free style event with a time of 25.23. Mohr was fourth with a time of 28.65.

Madison Mohr won the 100-yard breaststroke event with a time of 1:14.48. Haley Lux was fourth with a time of 1:28.41.

The Carroll 400-yard relay team of Campbell, Kelsey Gray, Axman and Currier won their race with an overall time of 3:50.73. The team of Madelyn Ehler, Emily Ludwig, Rain Simpson-Weiss and Olivia Boes finished fifth.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Currier, Campbell, Gray and Axman finished second with a time of 1:45.5. In fourth was the team of Mohr, Polking, Ehler and Beagle.

In the 200-yard medley relay the team of Lux, Mohr, Polking and Beagle finished third with a time of 2:07.28. Simpson-Weiss, Kennadie Machovec, Boes and Hansen finished fourth.

Gray was third in the backstroke event with a time of 1:11.01. Polking finished fourth.
