Carroll set to send six events to State

It was a fast day in Fort Dodge for the Carroll swimming team on Saturday.

Overall, Carroll was able to qualify four individual events and two relay events to this weekend’s State swim meet to be held in Fort Dodge.

On top of that, the Carroll High swim team saw 19 different time drops during the district meet.

Carroll was able to send the 200-yard medley relay team of Bailey St. Peter, Jenna Currier, Melea Axman and Amelia Holt to the State swim meet. Overall, that team finished fourth in Saturday’s meet with a time of 1:54.52, which will send them to the State meet.

In the 50-yard freestyle event, both Melea Axman and Jenna Currier will be representing Carroll High.

Axman finished fourth in Fort Dodge with a time of 24.3. Currier was sixth with a time of 24.68. Both had already qualified to the State meet in the 50-yard event with fast times in the regular season.

Axman was also able to qualify to the State meet in the 100-yard butterfly event. Overall she finished fifth with a time of 1:00.73.

Teammate Currier was able to finish third at the Fort Dodge meet with a time of 58.79, which helped her cement her State qualification time.

Carroll also was able to send its 200-yard freestyle relay team. The team, consisting of Axman, Holt, St. Peter and Currier, finished third in Fort Dodge with a time of 1:40.75 to qualify to the State meet.

“(We had )nineteen time drops,” head coach Deb Danner said. “The girls were very excited and ready for the day, and it showed in their performance. I’m so proud of every one of them.”

In the 200-yard freestyle event, Elizabeth Runneberg finished 10th with a time of 2:07.48. Zelda DeMoss was 15th with a time of 2:19.67.

In the Individual Medley event, Emily Hansen finished 16th with a time of 2:38.83. Maddi McLaughlin was 19th with a time of 2:48.54.

St. Peter was able to finish 11th in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 26.36.

Holt finished ninth in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 1:03.

Hailey Burns led the Tigers in the 100-yard freestyle race with a 12th place time of 58.94. Sophia Polking finished 13th with a time of 59.93. Hansen was 19th with a time of 1:04.46.

In the 500-yard freestyle race, Runneberg led the way with a ninth-place time of 5:53.04. Olivia Boes finished 13th with a time of 6:08.98. DeMoss was 15th with a time of 6:18.08.

St. Peter led the Tigers in the 100-yard back stroke event. She had a time of 1:02.98, which placed her sixth. Polking was 13th with a time of 1:08.24. Burns was 15th with a time of 1:09.38.

The 100-yard breaststroke was led by Maddi McLaughlin with a 17th-place time of 1:25.69. Boes was 18th with a time of 1:26.69.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay event, the Carroll team of Runneberg, Polking, Burns and Holt finished sixth with a time of 3:54.56.

Emma Myers, who had a State qualifying time and set a new school record this year, had to miss Saturday’s meet.
