Knights sending three to State

Knights are sending Marie Dea, Jacob Greving, Ryan North to State Cross Country

Fast times seemed to play exactly into the plans on Wednesday.

At the Glenwood State qualifying meet cross country meet the Kuemper Catholic runners weren’t afraid to push the pace to achieve their ultimate goal. 

Three Kuemper runners, Marie Dea, Ryan North and Jacob Greiving all were able to qualify to the State cross country meet. 

Faster times on a warm day was no match for the Knights on Wednesday as three individual runners were able to qualify to the State cross country meet to be held next weekend in Fort Dodge. 

In the girls race the Knights had a good showing as they finished eighth overall as a team with 213 total points. Leading the way was junior runner Marie Dea, who finished eighth overall. 

Dea’s time of 19:44.24 placed her in the top-15 and was fast enough to send her to the State cross country meet, for the first time in her career. 

Another junior runner for the Knights, Julia Kanne was able to finish 17th overall with a time of 20:52.48, which was just two positions away from qualifying to the State meet. 

Julia Criag was able to finsish 61st overall with a time of 24:31.42. Callie Ferneding, Sophie Tidgren and Lydia Meiners all finished right next to each other. Ferneding was 66th with a time of 24:28.55. Tidgren was 67th with a time of 25:03.14. Meiners was 68th with a time of 25:03.31. 

Keziah Janssen finished 72nd with a time of 25:47.28.

ADM won the meet with 49 total points. Other teams qualifying to the State meet were Glenwood and Harlan. 

In the boys meet two of the Knight runners finished in the top-11 to qualify to the State meet. 

Ryan North finished eighth overall with a time of 16:45.82 which will send the junior to his very first State cross country meet. 

Another junior, Jacob Greving, finished 11th with a time of 16:55.28 which will send him to his second-straight State cross country meet. 

Overall the Knights finished sixth in the boys race with a total of 158 points. 

Thomas Pottebaum was able to finish 43rd overall in the race with a time of 18:29.6. Fletch Badding was able to complete the race in a time of 18:40.37. That placed him 47th.

Dayton Wiederien finished 49th overall in the meet with a time of 18:42.62. Jacob McCargar finished in 66th with a time of 19:31.92. Colton Hagen finished 79th with a time of 21:57.8. 

Glenwood won the boys meet with a total of 30 points. Lewis Central finished second with 83 points and ADM had 91 points to finish third, and the last team to qualify their entire team to the State cross country meet. 

For the Knights their State cross country meet will be held Oct. 29 at the Lakeside golf course in Fort Dodge. 

Dea and the class 3A girls will run at 10:30 a.m.

North, Greiving and the 3A boys will run at 11:15 a.m.
