A trio of volleyball stars impressed more than their fan bases with their skills on the court this fall.
Three area seniors were honored earlier this week for their volleyball play this year. Two seniors from Kuemper Catholic as well as a senior from Carroll High were all awarded with All-State honors by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Being named the class 3A first-team list is Kuemper Catholic senior, Kara Peter.
Peter, who recently signed to play volleyball at Drake University next year, was able to compile another impressive year on the volleyball court. The senior led her team in kills with 552 recorded on the season. She ended the year with a kill efficiency of .400. Peter had almost an average of five kills per set this season. She finished the year averaging 4.8 kills per set.
This year Peter served the ball well, placing 93 percent of her serves in play. She finished with 41 aces.
Defensively Peter had 84 total blocks. She added 258 digs and five assists. In addition to being named to the All-State list, Peter was also named to the class 3A All-Tournament team at the State tournament.
Peter’s teammate, Anna Niehaus was also named to the class 3A All-State team. Niehaus was named to the third-team list.
Niehaus wasn’t far behind her teammate, Peter on the kill list. This season she had 302 total kills. She had 2.63 kills per set and had a kill efficiency rate of .263. She had 90 percent of her serves land in play and compiled 56 aces this year.
She added a total of 31 blocks throughout the year. She had 164 digs and finished with three assists. Like Peter, Niehaus was also named to the All-Tournament team following the class 3A State tournament.
On the class 4A All-State list was Carroll senior setter, Rylee Ludwig. Ludwig finished the season with 907 assists. She averaged nearly nine assists per set with 8.89.
In addition, she added 260 digs and 14 total blocks. She served the ball at nearly a 94 percentage rate this season with 44 aces. Offensively she added 38 kills.
