Kuemper boys finish 7th at Hawkeye 10 meet; Knight girls place 10th
Tyler Putney led the Kuemper Catholic cross country team at Thursday’s Hawkeye 10 meet with an eighth-place finish. He ran the course in 17:40.
Michael Pottebaum finished 13th with a time of 18:03. He was followed by Jack Hagen with a 23rd place finish of 18:22. In 46th was Patrick Hensel. Carter Derake finished with a time of 20:16. Matching his time was Sam Janssen. Carter Soppe finished 76th with a time of 21:10.
On the girls side of the meet the Knights finished 10th as a team. Leading the way was Keziah Janssen with a time of 25:22. With a time of 25:50 was Avery Jeschke had the 58th fastest time.
In 66th place was Alexandria Klein with a time of 28 minutes. One second later, and three places later was Emerson Walsh who had the 69th place finish.
In 70th was Lydia Mieners.
East Sac wins Twin Lakes Conference volleyball tournament, SCC finishes third
During the tournament portion of the Twin Lakes Conference held on Thursday the East Sac County Raiders won all three of their matches, on their way to a Conference championship.
Their tournament run started with a match against Emmetsburg. In that match the Raiders were able to win the first set 25-15. They then survived a second set win, 26-24 to move into the tournament semifinals.
There, they met heir closest rival, South Central Calhoun.
The Titans had advanced to the semifinals after defeating Newell-Fonda 25-22, 25-22 in the quarterfinals.
East Sac won the first set 25-23 against the Titans. However, SCC would tie up the match with a second set 25-19 victory. The semifinals was won in the third set when East Sac County was able to earn a 15-13 victory.
That sent South Central Calhoun to the third place match where they would take on Alta-Aurelia.
East Sac County would play Southeast Valley in the championship match.
Against the Jaguars East Sac County would not be challenged. They won the first set 25-21. They then finished their run as the Twin Lakes Conference overall champion with a 25-19 victory.
Against Alta-Aurelia in the third place match, SCC would win the first set 25-19. In the second set the Titans were able to win 25-15 to finish as the third place team in the conference.
